Yay for a fixed slide

Hi everyone!   We just got back from playing to Purple Heart Park!  We played for about an hour and there were TONS of kiddos there!  That's what we get for going during a break weekend!  Well I went to check on the status of our slide and the graffiti, good news, the slide is fixed and I even over heard a dad telling his daughter that he could tell she had missed it.  The graffiti was also gone, mostly, it looked like someone tagged the structure sometime within the last 24 hours.  I took a picture and sent it to graffiti@tucsonaz.gov  as a reminder you can also send photos to this email address and someone will come out and clean it up.  We are the first step in stopping this, the police department can't patrol everywhere.  If you are a resident of Rita Ranch/S.E Tucson area, please consider joining the Rita ranch and Vail community forum on FB.. Also you can help other areas of town by adopting a park road or wash

Thank you everyone!!

YAY!

So progress is already being made on our park!   We got a new slide installed yesterday by the skate park.  Pictures will be coming soon.  I haven't been able to head over there with my camera yet.   Here is  a small excerpt of my email from Glenna Overstreet, our Parks and Rec's Superintendent for the East side of Tucson...

We will be assessing the condition of the older playground near the Rita Rd. entrance tomorrow, and will let me know  if repairs can be made.  Unfortunately, this playground is beyond it's anticipated life span, and retro-fitting components/parts of the unit is very difficult.   After his assessment, we will discuss if it would be in the best interest of  everyone to remove the entire unit, especially if there are significant safety hazards.  If we have an opportunity to do repairs, we will research the costs and let you know how much we would need.   I appreciate your willingness to try and raise funds to help with this.

They are anticipating that a new play structure, with shading, landscaping, planning and construction will cost approx. $180,000.  I know we will not be able to raise this amount to get a new play structure but every penny we can raise will help get our park fixed sooner.   Please check out the blog again within the next few days for pictures of the new slide and hopefully some information about our Movie night!!

Welcome!!

Welcome to the blog!  I am going to be posting here about new things happening to our park.  I will be updating with the status of our movie nights and community afternoons.  I will also post here if I see new things or hear new things about construction happening at our park.

Right now I have contacted Glenna Overstreet with the Parks and Rec dept, to see how much money we need to raise to help bring our beautiful park back to life.  I feel very strongly about saving this park, I have a 4 year old and I NEED a place for her to be able to run around and let off some steam.

So far we are in the process having a movie in the park.  We are still trying to figure out costs for licensing  and rentals of the equipment and we are also trying to figure out a date.  If you are willing to help find sponsors for the event or if you can volunteer to help make this happen please email me at Friendsofpurpleheartpark@gmail.com.

Thats it for now.  I have included a few pictures of the current state of our park.
